Monster Energy Super X, the Australasian Supercross Championship is a
partnership between Michael Porra, the CEO of Global Action Sports, and
Australia’s greatest ever supercross rider, Chad Reed.
In 2007, Motorcycling Australia granted the partnership a ten year
license to conduct the Australasian Supercross Championship and they
immediately went to work planning the all new series.
In 2008 the first Super X championship was run giving the sport of
supercross a massive shake up. A total of 90,000 people packed stadiums across
Australia to see the races live and an incredible four million viewers watched
the series on television.
In 2009 the series capitalised on the success of its inaugural year by
introducing even more new race formats, its first race in New Zealand, larger
more innovative tracks and the inclusion of some of the biggest international
riders in the world of supercross.
The championship will again expand in 2010 with four of the top five
riders in the world making the trip downunder to compete, further expansion
into New Zealand with a race on both the North and South islands, a range of
exciting new initiatives for fans at the event and further developments in race
formats and track development.
In 2010 the most exciting and popular race formats will return as well
as all new formats that will test riders and their differing strengths. There
will also be an exciting and unique exhibition race to add to the entertainment
for fans at every round.
Fox Sports will once again cover every race live and SBS will run a one
hour highlights package the weekend after as part of Speedweek. Tracks will be
custom designed and built for each venue by internationally renowned American
track designer, Jason Baker, and will incorporate many new challenges for
riders.
